Geotechnical fieldwork related to the Vantaa Light Rail project will begin in early November 2025 on Länsimäentie, in the areas of Vantaa and Helsinki
In early November, trial ground stabilization will start on Länsimäentie at the border between Vantaa and Helsinki. The purpose of these tests is to determine the most suitable and cost-effective soil reinforcement method for the area before the main construction begins. Work will start in week 45 and is estimated to last about three weeks.
Due to the work, the Keihästie bus stop (V9118), located on the Vantaa side, will be out of service starting from 10 November 2025. The stop will reopen on Monday, 24 November 2025.
The work will begin with preparatory tasks in the green area. After that, the actual trial stabilization will be carried out. The work will not cause noise disturbance in the area. The main works will take place in the green area and not on the carriageway, so there will be no significant impact on traffic. However, during machine transfers, traffic lanes may be used temporarily. In these cases, trained traffic controllers will guide traffic to ensure safety.
The Vantaa Light Rail is planned to start operation in 2029
Preparatory works have been underway since spring. The planned route runs from Mellunmäki Metro Station through Hakunila, Tikkurila, and Aviapolis to the airport. The work has been commissioned by the City of Vantaa and Kaupunkiliikenne Oy, with GRK and Kreate as contractors. The actual construction will begin in December after the City Council approves the updated project plan.
