Light rail planning
The planning of Vantaa Light Rail progressed concurrently at the levels of the master plan, station plans and street and park planning during 2021-2022. The planning principles were sustainability, greenness, ecology and accessibility.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021-2022, the city presented draft plans through remote events and videos. The videos show what the streets will look like after the construction is completed. You can also take a look at the plan map, through which you can easily find information about your own area.

Outline plan and local detailed plans
Along the route of Vantaa Light Rail, an outline plan guiding its urban development was drawn up. It is a plan that is more specific than the master plan, but more general than the local detailed plan.
With the outline plan for the light rail line, the city will guide the urban development of the route area in the long term. The plan specifies the guidelines of the master plan, i.e. determines what kind of city can be planned and built along the route. The target area is a zone formed by the light rail stops within a range of about 800 meters.
The light rail plans show the space required by the tracks, stops and other infrastructure in the street environment. The delineations were specified in the street and park plans.
Street and park plans for the light rail line
The light rail line’s street and park plans concerned the streets along which the tracks run. The light rail streets are mainly existing streets. In addition to them, new street connections are being planned.
Park plans were made for the areas where the light rail line or new traffic arrangements caused changes.
Street and park plan drafts and videos
