Construction of the Vantaa Light Rail begins on 1 December 2025 between Kuninkaala and Mellunmäki – Invitation to a resident meeting
Construction work on the Vantaa Light Rail between Kuninkaala and Mellunmäki will begin in December 2025 on several sections simultaneously. We will provide more detailed information on the construction work and possible temporary routes for each area closer to the start of construction. A public resident meeting about the construction works between Kuninkaala and Mellunmäki will be held on 4 November at Lehtikuusi School.
Heidehof Park and Kyytitie
In December, work will begin in Heidehof Park to remove Gasgrid’s existing high-pressure gas pipeline. The work will partially restrict access to the park and may cause occasional noise. From Heidehof Park, construction will expand to Kyytitie, where in addition to the high-pressure gas pipeline, other underground utilities will also be relocated. Due to street works, pedestrian and cycling routes will be temporarily redirected.
On Kyytitie, work will also begin at the Porttipuisto area at the start of December. A retaining wall will be built there to allow the road area to be widened, and gas pipe relocation will continue. Construction along Kyytitie will continue throughout the Vantaa Light Rail project until 2029, causing temporary and phased changes to traffic arrangements in the area.
Hakunila area
In Hakunila, demolition work began in October at Kyytitie 4. The demolition will be completed in December, after which the parking spaces under the former building will be reopened for use. This work will enable the start of Vantaa Light Rail construction near the Hakunila shopping centre, currently estimated to begin in April 2026.
Länsimäentie section
On the section crossing Highway 7 (Porvoonväylä), construction of a new bridge will begin in December. The work will start with preparatory activities such as removing surface soil and park areas and temporarily relocating a water main.
On the street sections, work will also start in December both north and south of Highway 7. The street works will include temporary and permanent relocation of underground utilities, the start of district heating construction, building detour routes for the bridge crossing Highway 7, removal of surface soil, and reorganisation of the dog park fence along Länsimäentie.

We will host a public information event at Lehtikuusi School in Hakunila (Hiirakkotie 9) on 4 November from 18:00 to 19:00. Coffee will be served from 17:30. We will share updates about the project and answer questions.
Vantaa Light Rail service scheduled to begin in 2029
Vantaa Light Rail is one of the City of Vantaa’s strategic spearhead projects, aiming to provide smooth and environmentally friendly modes of transportation in the area.
Preparatory work has been underway since spring. At Tikkurila Station, we have already completed most of this year’s rail service interruptions, during which we prepared for the construction of the light rail tunnel. Full-scale construction is set to begin in December, following the City Council’s approval of the updated project plan.
