Construction of the Vantaa Light Rail begins in Aviapolis this December
Work on the Vantaa Light Rail starts in Aviapolis on Dec 1. During winter, we will mainly carry out earthworks and blasting in closed areas, with no impact on airport operations. Light Rail service is planned to begin in 2029.

Construction phases and schedule
Work is scheduled to start on Dec 1 at Plootukallio in the Muura area. First, trees will be removed where necessary and topsoil cleared. Blasting will begin later in December. Some phases will cause noise, but not yet near residential buildings. More sites will open in 2026, and we will inform you in advance.
During winter, work will take place in closed areas with no major impact on traffic. The map shows in red a pedestrian and cycling route closing in December. The southern route along Tikkurilantie will close, while the northern route remains open.
The southern route will be closed because we will build a site access at the Aviabulevardi roundabout. There will be some site traffic expected. Helsinki Airport and both Aviapolis train stations will operate normally throughout construction.
Preparatory works for the Vantaa Light Rail are ongoing, and most track closures at Tikkurila station for tunnel preparation are complete. The construction phase of Vantaa Light Rail is scheduled to begin in December.
