Construction of the Vantaa Light Rail to Begin on Tikkurilantie in December
According to current plans, construction of the Vantaa Light Rail will begin on Tikkurilantie on December 1st. Work will take place between Puutarhatie and Kielotie, and this section will be gradually taken out of use for vehicular traffic starting in December and continuing through January.
Tikkurilantie, westbound from Talvikkitie
Before the construction site on Tikkurilantie begins, we will carry out preparatory work on Kuriirikuja. The northern part of Kuriirikuja will be closed to vehicular traffic on November 10th. The exact section affected is between Tikkurilantie and Staffaksenkuja, and the work involves relocating municipal infrastructure. As part of the preparatory work on Kuriirikuja, we will also prepare the adjacent plot for use in construction operations.

The actual construction of the light rail is scheduled to begin on Tikkurilantie on December 1st. As construction begins, parts of Tikkurilantie will be closed to vehicular traffic. However, we will ensure that safe and functional routes remain available for pedestrians and cyclists. The specific section to be closed on Tikkurilantie is between Puutarhatie and Kielotie, and the closure will take place in phases. The crossings at Osmankäämintie and Talvikkitie will remain open.
Some phases of the work will cause noise. Noisy work will primarily be carried out on weekdays between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM. We will provide separate notifications if there are any exceptions to this schedule. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
Vantaa Light Rail Service Scheduled to Begin in 2029
Vantaa Light Rail is one of the City of Vantaa’s strategic spearhead projects, aiming to provide smooth and environmentally friendly modes of transportation in the area. Preparatory work has been underway since spring. At Tikkurila Station, we have already completed most of this year’s rail service interruptions, during which we prepared for the construction of the light rail tunnel. Full-scale construction is set to begin in December, following the City Council’s approval of the updated project plan.
