Preparatory work on the light rail tunnel to be expanded: Kielotie between Asematie and Lummekuja, along with Kirjastopuisto, will become a work site in September
The preparatory work on the Tikkurila light rail tunnel will be expanded at the beginning of September. Kielotie between Asematie and Lummekuja, along with Kirjastopuisto, will become a work site starting from 1 September 2025.
Kirjastopuiston tunnelmia elokuussa 2025
The light rail will run underground at Ratakuja, Kirjastopuisto and Lummekuja, and the track will resurface at Kielotie 25. The preparatory work on the western part of the tunnel will affect traffic arrangements in the area for several years, starting this September.
Kielotie will be closed to all motor vehicle traffic between Unikkotie and Lummekuja and extending to Kielotie 15. Pedestrian and bicycle access will still be possible on Kielotie between Unikkotie and Asematie. Temporary pedestrian access from Lehdokkitie to Kielotie 30 will be via the building at Kielotie 28.
Car and bus traffic between Unikkotie and Lummetie will be moved to Talvikkitie. Bus routes 624(N), 631 and 641 will be diverted to run via Talvikkitie and bus routes 619, 625 and 735 via Lummetie and Ratatie to the Tikkurila Travel Center.
See HSL web pages for more detailed information about changes to bus traffic.
Vehicular access to the properties on Asematie will be changed to two-way access via Ratatie.
The car park at Kielotie 13 will be out of use starting from 1 September. The large terrace (Terazzi) will become a work site after the country market to be held on 4–5 October.
Kirjastopuisto to become a work site
Kirjastopuisto will become a work site at the beginning of September. The library's car park will be partly in normal use, but part of it will be used by the work site.
The playground equipment at the Kirjastopuisto play area will be dismantled and put in storage for the duration of construction. The playground will return to its former location when the construction of the light rail tunnel has been completed in 2029. The light rail project is investigating the possibility of placing the playground equipment at a different location. More information will be provided later.
Of the two large trees that grow in the park, the poplar will remain in place. Its root system will be protected with a planting box. The other trees, including the large oak, will unfortunately need to be removed. The City of Vantaa will cut down the oak in the latter part of the year, and its trunk will be utilised as material for a piece of art.
The cherry trees will potentially be relocated to a new growing spot on the edge of the adjacent car park.
Work site traffic will pass through Lummetie
Access to the library will remain unchanged. Pedestrian and bicycle access will continue to be available at the southern end of the library and the southern edge of the car park.
Traffic to the work site will primarily pass through Lummetie and the library's car park, where a site access road will be built. There will be an alternative route for work site traffic at the end of Ratakuja.
Vehicular access to Tikkuparkki will remain unchanged in September. In October, new vehicular access to the parking facility will be opened via Lummetie and the library's car park. The current pedestrian entrances to Tikkuparkki will remain in use.
Access on Ratakuja will remain normal in the early stage.
Work to take place on weekdays between 7:00 and 20:00
Although the work will cause many changes to traffic arrangements, the work itself will not cause particular noise or harm. The site will primarily operate between 7:00 and 20:00 on weekdays.
Information on noisy work stages will be provided in advance in a timely manner.
