The oak tree in Library park

The oak tree in Library Park has long been an important part of the park’s landscape. Today, December 3, 2025, we must fell it, as the construction of the light rail tunnel in Tikkurila is progressing. Unfortunately, the oak stands exactly where the tunnel will be built, and we need to access the excavation to construct the concrete tunnel at its growing site.

The oak will have a new life

The goal is for the Vantaa Light Rail to be completed in 2029, at which time Library Park will once again be in normal use for all residents. The light rail will pass under Library Park in a tunnel, allowing the park to be restored to its original state. The oak will also return to Library Park. Artist Antti Laitinen will take possession of the oak trunk and create an artwork that endures through time and reflects lived life. The artwork will be a source of joy for all of us in Library Park.

The light rail tunnel being built in Tikkurila will be approximately 800 meters long. The tunnel will pass under Tikkurila station, the Dixi bus terminal, Ratakuja, and Library Park. Work has already begun in Library Park, and we have already relocated municipal infrastructure. More up-to-date information on the project’s progress is available through our communication channels.
