Track interruptions were successfully completed in Tikkurila
All six tracks at Tikkurila station are once again in normal use. The closure of track 1 ended this morning at 4:40, and train traffic was restored to the track. The track closures began in June, with each track being closed in turn. The construction of the Vantaa Light Rail has progressed on schedule at Tikkurila station, and traffic has run smoothly without disruptions.
This year’s track interruptions at Tikkurila station have successfully come to an end.
Tunnel Construction Continues
All tracks have now been moved onto bridges. With the help of these bridges, the tunnel can be built underneath the tracks while trains continue to operate normally. Next, the excess soil beneath the bridges will be excavated, and later the concrete tunnel and eventually the track system will be constructed. Under Tikkurila station, the busiest stop on the tram route will be built, allowing passengers to smoothly transfer between train and tram in either direction.
Building in a Densely Built City Requires Special Expertise
The Tikkurila tram tunnel is one of the most challenging sites of the Vantaa Light Rail project. Trains run frequently, and all work must be carried out under the conditions of railway traffic. Nevertheless, all track closures were implemented according to the planned schedule, and train traffic was not disrupted. Project Manager Jonne Nurmela credits the skilled work crew and looks to the future with optimism:
“We trust that systematic and long-term work will bear fruit. Behind the success of the site and the project is always a large group of professionals who contribute their expertise. We trust each other, and every success is a shared success for all of us.”
