Construction work on the Vantaa Light Rail expands in December around the bridge crossing Porvoonväylä
Preparatory works for the Vantaa Light Rail began in November on Länsimäentie in the area surrounding the bridge crossing Porvoonväylä. After the City Council approved the updated project plan, the project has now moved into the construction phase on Länsimäentie.
At the end of 2025, work carried out in the northern part of Länsimäentie, around the bridge crossing Porvoonväylä, will include the removal of surface soil and trees, as well as the relocation of water supply and municipal infrastructure. In December, we will also build temporary traffic arrangements related to the construction of the new bridge. The work will take place on Länsimäentie and will not affect traffic on Porvoonväylä.
The biggest changes for pedestrians, cyclists and motor traffic will occur after the turn of the year. We recommend allowing extra travel time in the area already from December when the work begins. Work phases that cause significant noise, such as sheet pile installation and blasting, are currently scheduled for spring 2026.
We will provide more detailed information on temporary routes closer to the start of the works.
The work areas are shown in blue in the image.
